N.I. Electricity – Northern Ireland

Project Description

Multiple MP66E gensets are being used at ‘NIE Networks Infrastructure sites to ensure auxiliary supplies to the NIE Networks essential equipment remain available through Marapco’s local dealer, AC Automation.

AC Automation is based in Carrickfergus, Northern Ireland and provides Power Generation Solutions to businesses across Northern Ireland, Ireland, and occasionally Great Britain. They have engineers and an installation team with over 25 years of local experience, providing power under difficult circumstances. They are an ISO approved company with standards in ISO9001, ISO14001 & OHSAS 18001 and have exceptional knowledge & experience in power generation and can handle even the most complex projects, such as challenging mechanical installations, high-level electrical fault analysis, or dual redundant master plc fibre optic control systems.

AC Automation offers comprehensive servicing and maintenance on a wide variety of generators, using manufacturer approved parts, across the UK and Ireland. For large installations, they can provide temporary generator hire, load banks and cabling to ensure safe servicing and testing. They are responsible for some of the largest generator installations in Northern Ireland. Providing a generator is just a small part of the process, we design complete mechanical, electrical and control systems which integrate into existing infrastructure. Electrically they size generators, perform complex fault analysis, integrate with Mains network and design protection systems to protect the plant. Mechanically they design exhaust systems, fuel systems, sound attenuation and coordinate the installation. Our designers are adept at creating complex control systems using PLC & SCADA from a wide range of suppliers. AC Automation project manages the design to installation & commissioning.

AC Automation is also at the leading edge of innovation in the industry.  Last year they created a system to remotely control and monitor generator systems and this system was awarded the 2016 Business Eye First Trust Bank Small Business award for innovation.  They are currently a registered Demand Side Operator in the Single Electricity Market (SEM).  This year they are continuing to innovate with the development of our smart building technology and battery storage.

AC Automation provides power generation solutions and maintenance for prestigious clients, among them the Belfast Health & Social Care Trust, Northern Ireland Water, Northern Ireland Electricity, Marks & Spencer, Asda, British Telecom & the Northern Ireland government departments (Central Procurement Directorate).  In many cases these contracts have been held consistently over a 25 year period and this includes those relating to the emergency services such as fire, ambulance, hospitals etc. This client support, no better displays the quality of the service we provide and the trust it instils from our customers.

The MP66E sets were installed with a variable control Crestchich 20kW load bank for light loads, wired directly into the DSE control panel. AC Automation also has the capacity to remotely control and monitor their gensets 24/7 via their SCADA system.
