What is the difference between single-phase and 3 phase?

  1. The single-phase power supply gives power through a single conductor (and neutral).
  2. The 3-Phase power supply gives power through three conductors (and/or neutral).
  3. Single-Phase voltages can be 110 – 240v whereas 3-Phase voltages can be 240 – 415v (depending on the alternator configuration).
  4. Connection of Single-Phase system is simpler compared to 3 phase.
  5. Single-Phase is generally used in domestic applications
  6. Three-Phases are generally used in industrial applications
